Layer-7 platform

Cachivo L7

High-performance Layer-7 protection for streaming infrastructure. A distributed reverse-proxy platform for high-bandwidth services, streaming, APIs, portals and applications that need stronger origin protection and flexible traffic routing.

Sits between your customers and your production infrastructure — keeping your backend servers isolated from direct public access.
Origin protection

Your backend stays out of public reach

Cachivo L7 is designed to keep backend infrastructure away from direct public exposure. When correctly deployed:

Separated from subscribers

Public DNS points to Cachivo infrastructure. Customers do not connect directly to your origin, and backend IP addresses stay separated from subscriber-facing endpoints.

Restricted origin access

Origin access can be restricted to authorised infrastructure only, so the path into your backend is one you approve rather than one anyone can attempt.

Independent of your topology

Public-facing hostnames stay independent from backend topology — so infrastructure changes get much easier, because the public hostname does not have to change when backend servers do.

Capabilities

Handled at the application layer

Traffic is inspected and handled at Layer 7 before it is forwarded to your infrastructure.

Layer-7 reverse proxy

HTTP/HTTPS and streaming proxying, application-layer filtering, traffic routing, backend health checks, origin failover, request filtering and connection controls.

Web application firewall

Detection and blocking of SQL injection, cross-site scripting, path traversal, command injection, automated scanners, configuration-file probes and other malicious request patterns. Security events stay visible in the platform.

Real visitor IP detection

The actual visitor identity is maintained through the proxy chain, so controls act on the real subscriber rather than on a proxy node — essential for per-user limits, rate limiting, abuse prevention, authentication, security logs and analytics.

Per-subscriber limits

Limits based on the actual connecting subscriber help control excessive simultaneous connections, credential sharing, automated scraping, API abuse and unusual traffic patterns — without treating everyone behind the proxy as one client.

Automatic TLS

Use your own domain while Cachivo handles the certificate lifecycle — issued, installed and renewed automatically, so HTTPS is maintained without managing certificates by hand across individual proxy nodes.

High availability

Nodes are replaceable components: multiple proxy nodes, automatic health monitoring, traffic removed from failed nodes, rapid replacement, stateless deployment and automatic cluster rejoining. A failed node is replaced, not recovered.

Multi-front architecture

Not dependent on a single frontend provider

This is one of the main advantages of Cachivo L7. Traffic can be routed through multiple available frontend paths. If one becomes unavailable or unsuitable, traffic moves to another without changing the subscriber-facing hostname.

For your customers

Nothing changes.

For your infrastructure team

Traffic routing changes centrally.

Built for the workload

Streaming optimised

Unlike Cachivo CDN, Cachivo L7 is designed for sustained, high-bandwidth streaming workloads.

Suitable workloads

  • Video delivery
  • Streaming portals
  • Live channels
  • VOD infrastructure
  • High-bandwidth HTTP traffic
  • Large subscriber platforms

Direct node protection

Proxy infrastructure can be configured so that traffic reaching backend nodes outside approved Cachivo paths is silently discarded — reducing direct-origin scanning, automated probing, backend discovery, unauthorised direct requests and attempts to bypass the proxy layer.

Monitoring & analytics

  • Traffic per hostname
  • Active connections and active streams
  • Security events and blocked requests
  • Backend and proxy-node health
  • Traffic distribution
Recommended

Cachivo CDN + Cachivo L7

For maximum separation and protection, run both. Together they form a complete frontend layer for web and streaming infrastructure.

Cachivo CDN

Web & DNS layer

  • Authoritative DNS
  • Websites
  • Customer portals
  • APIs
  • Static assets
  • Web caching
  • Application firewalling

Streaming & origin layer

  • Streaming traffic
  • High-bandwidth applications
  • Origin protection
  • Subscriber connection controls
  • Layer-7 filtering
  • Multi-front routing
Example architecture

Where the traffic goes

Your subscriber hostname stays the same even when the routing or the backend infrastructure changes.

Step 1
Subscriber
Connects to your domain — the only address they ever see.
Step 2
Cachivo DNS
Resolves your hostname to the currently selected frontend.
Step 3
Cachivo L7 / selected frontend
Terminates TLS, applies the WAF, filtering and per-subscriber limits, then forwards.
Step 4
Protected origin
Reached over an approved path only. Not publicly exposed.
Getting started

Migrate one server first

You do not need to move your entire infrastructure at once. Begin with a single server or hostname and validate it before migrating anything else.

Validate before you commit

  • Performance
  • Stability
  • Routing
  • Origin protection
  • Streaming behaviour

Important

Cachivo is infrastructure, not a mechanism for avoiding legal obligations. Customers remain responsible for:

  • Their content
  • Their customers
  • Applicable laws
  • Copyright obligations
  • Valid legal notices
  • Acceptable-use compliance

The objective of the platform is infrastructure resilience, controlled routing, origin protection and predictable service management.
